Pimping for DaddyK

We are definitely family. CK has tagged me and the subject matter slides right into a post I was going to do on a book I just finished.

We must all be psychic, why just the other day, NK and I were watching the beginning of a commercial about arthritis; on the screen was what appeared to be a can of Campbell's soup and the announcer said, can you pull on this? Immediately NK and I put our index fingers out and said simultaneously "can you pull on this"?

Guess I got off track there.

Anyway I am supposed to talk about a book. Here are the rules:

1. Pick up the nearest book ( of at least 123 pages).
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the next three sentences.
5. Tag five people & post a comment on your taggers blog so they can go see.

1. Well, the book I just finished just happened to be sitting on the table beside me when I discovered that I had been tagged. The name: No Excuses by Robert Shrum. He is now best known for his "curse" on any Presidential candidate that employs him as a consultant to their campaign.

If you want a bit on insider campaign information on how to loose an election, read this book (I think HRC has secretly employed him).

2. Surprise, surprise; when I opened the book to page 123 I found that I had bookmarked that page for future discussion (one thing most of you probably do not know about me is that I was a history major in college and I became very anal about how I go about reading a book. I have been known to make margin notes and frequently bookmark passages for future reference).

In this case, the reference happens to be very timely. Senator Ted Kennedy is talking about universal health care. Leading up to the 5th sentence on page 123, Senator Kennedy says:

"I say again as I have before, if health insurance is good enough for the President, the Vice President and the Congress of the United States, then it is good enough for you and every family in America".

The statement was made just prior to the election in 1980. So, here we are, 28 years later and we have not moved 1 inch toward providing everyone with health care that is equivalent to the type of care received by those serving us. How about that!

So, the 5th sentence on page 123 is:

"Kennedy shifted tone again as he talked personally about the campaign and signaled to a convention that now didn't want him to finish that he was about to:

In closing, let me say a few words to all those that I have met and to all those who have supported me, at this Convention and across the country."

4. The next 3 sentences:

"There were hard hours on our journey, and often we sailed against the wind. But always we kept our rudder true. There were so many of you who stayed the course and shared our hope."

End of 5th through 8th sentences on page 123.

While I was somewhat bored at times and Mr. Shrum did not provide a flow that would be recommended for a novice writer, this book is worth the effort if you are interested in how a campaign takes shape.

One thing I wonder though is exactly how much do Senators pay for their health care?

5. I tag thee: Julie, DW, Jo, Squidgesmum, Mr. Fabulous

So, If you have a book close by, tell us all what it is and what on earth might be on page 123.
